The Way I See SpongeBob

I honestly don’t see cartoons the way most people do. I don’t see them as “just for babies.” I think sometimes people watch them, laugh, and move on… but miss the real messages inside.

Because if you really pay attention, there’s actually a lot to learn. But at the same time, I won’t lie…Not every cartoon has a message. And I don’t just watch anything.

Before I invest my time in a cartoon, there are a few things I look for:

Is it fun?

And is there actually a message it’s trying to pass across?

Because if I’m going to sit and watch something, I want it to give me something, even if it’s small.

Take SpongeBob for example. If there’s any character I wish I could be like, it’s him. I want to always be happy.

To find joy in little things.

To show up for people the way he does.

Because SpongeBob always shows up.

Yes, he messes things up sometimes....well most times...

But he still shows up.

And honestly, that matters.

I remember one episode I watched when I was younger...

SpongeBob suddenly became rich...And just like that, he had so many friends.

People everywhere. Everyone wanted to be around him. But the moment his money disappeared…

So did those “friends.” Almost all of them vanished.

Except the few who were actually real.

And even as a child, that stayed with me.

Because it showed something very real:

Not everyone around you is truly for you.

Some people are only there for what you have.

And it takes losing something to see who truly stays.

And then there’s Mr. Krabs.

He’s definitely stingy, I agree 😂

But he’s also financially smart.

He understands value.

He knows a good business opportunity when he sees one, and he doesn’t joke with his money.

Then there’s Plankton.

He keeps trying.

No matter how many times he fails. Again and again. Even when it’s not working 😭

And even though his methods are questionable, there’s still something to learn from him:

He doesn’t give up.

So while some people are just watching cartoons for fun…

I’m watching and thinking. About people. About life. About the kind of person I want to be.

Maybe cartoons are not as childish as people think.

Maybe they’re just simple ways of showing real-life lessons.

And honestly? I don’t think I’d want to see them any other way.

I also grew up watching Jungle Book.

That one was different.

It wasn’t just something I watched alone... it was something I watched with my parents.

And somehow, it became one of those things we passed down...Because now, my baby sister is watching it too....she just has to watch it! It's family tradition 😂..And I find that so interesting.

Because it means something about it stayed.

Something about that story was worth keeping...

I might not even be able to point out every single lesson in it right now 😂

But I know there’s something there. Something about growth. About survival. About learning who you are and where you belong....

And I think that’s the beauty of some cartoons.

You might not understand everything at once.

But the lessons stay with you… quietly....🫠
