A Day In My Life

It’s been a while on this space, but here I am again! Maybe I’ll just talk about how my day went today.

If I had to describe it in one word, I’d say "chaotic but quite fulfilling" with a little bit of overthinking sprinkled in (mostly to distract myself from the million and one things I’m worried about 🫠).

So, here goes.

I woke up around 7:30 a.m.....not my usual time ... but since I didn’t have much planned, I didn’t stress it. My only goal for the day was: go to school, see my supervisor, come back home.

Simple enough, right?

Still on my bed, I did my Bible reading. I read something about receiving God’s Holy Spirit and then went through Hebrews 13:5... the part that says God will never leave or abandon me really stuck. It felt like the perfect way to start the day.

Then I somehow found myself scrolling through LinkedIn (don’t even ask me how 😭). I caught myself going through posts from my classmates and couldn’t help but laugh. I’ve always found LinkedIn a bit… serious. When a friend once asked why my page was empty, I said, “That place looks too serious for me, abeg.” Looking at my profile again today, I could only whisper, “God, so dry!” 😂

I jotted down my day’s plan:

10:00–11:00 a.m.: Go to school

11:00–12:00 p.m.: See supervisor

12:00–12:30 p.m.: Head home

12:30–2:00 p.m.: Finish content

2:00–3:00 p.m.: Think of LinkedIn

3:00–4:00 p.m.: Think of Upwork

4:00–6:00 p.m.: Cook, watch movie, eat

6:30–9:30 p.m.: Read Musculoskeletal System

9:30–12:00 p.m.: Read On Black Sisters Street

My first mistake? Leaving bed at 10:00 a.m. 😂...But I still managed to shower, dress up, and get to school in record time... thank God for my “man legs.” What usually takes 25 minutes with my housemates took me about 12.

Met with my supervisor about my project data analysis. Man looked at it and said, “Make it colourful.” At this point, I didn’t even argue. For a research project due in 7–8 days, he’s still on Chapter One (I think!),cuz he claims he hasn’t read it yet because he’s busy marking scripts. Wild, right? 🫠 My research project has been sitting pretty in his drawer for like two months now...

Anyway, I played around with a few classmates before heading home. Back home, I worked on some TikTok and Instagram content, checked my TBR for ARCs, and dropped reviews on Goodreads... went from 46 to 52 reviews today! That took about an hour. Here's a link to today's post on Instagram Book Review

Then NEPA smiled on me. I used the electric cooker to save gas and made two meals (one for today, one for tomorrow, because I hate early morning cooking 😭).

While the food was cooking, I was fighting with Canva and my terrible network connection. The network won, but I kept pushing.

Food was ready, and I ate it hot....because somehow, I love suffering through spicy meals that make my nose run 😭. I watched The Loud House (yes, I still watch cartoons 😂) and finished around 4:30 p.m.

Back to LinkedIn. I found a message from a lady I’d reached out to months ago about becoming a mental health advocate.... turns out she replied ages ago! I quickly added her and messaged again (still waiting for her response though). While waiting, I decided to look through LinkedIn profiles of fellow book reviewers and freelancers I know, just to get a feel of what I’d want my own page to look like. Honestly, seeing how creative and intentional people were with their profiles gave me ideas and also mild pressure 😭.

I started brainstorming what my first LinkedIn post should look like and tried answering three questions:

1. What kind of work or opportunities do I hope to attract? (Even if unsure, what areas sound interesting?)

Probably something around book reviewing, nursing, mental health advocacy, or content creation.

2. What have I done so far ... school, volunteering, creative work, side hustles, anything I'm proud of?

Definitely my work as an ARC reviewer this year, across different genres and authors.

3. When people describe me, what kind of qualities or skills do they notice (e.g., creative, organized, caring, analytical)?

Honestly, I struggled with this one.

Network frustration returned, so I decided to pause and continue tomorrow. (I can't say I procrastinated...or did I ?😭)

I also checked Upwork but immediately ran away 😂.... told myself to take things one at a time.

Later, I got a message from my little brother saying he was stranded (cue big sister mode 🥲). By the time I settled down, it was almost 6 p.m.

Tried to read, but my brain refused. I grabbed my earpods, played "From Eden" by Hozier, took the clothes off the line, and sat outside listening to nature while Spotify shuffled my favourites... from Asa to Phil Collins, Brenda Fassie, George Ezra, Chike, Johnny Drille, Andy Grammer, Jojo Siwa and the list goes on....

Finally, the reading vibe came ... only to realize the side of my brain where I stored the Musculoskeletal system is apparently on break. Then the vibe left again 😭.

By 7:30 p.m., I gave up and “stole” a bit of tomorrow’s breakfast (don’t judge me 😭). Now I’m curled up in bed writing this post. It’s currently 10:13 p.m., and I’ll probably spend another 40 minutes proofreading and posting everywhere.

I’ll end the night with my book club’s pick... On Black Sisters Street by Chika Unigwe. Joining Enioluwa’s Book Club last month was such a highlight. The weekly discussions are always so insightful.

So yeah ... that’s my day!

Decided to make a tentative schedule for tomorrow (if I actually follow it):

8:00–10:00 a.m.: Wake up, Bible study, and read Musculoskeletal System …or

10:00–11:00 a.m.: Wake up, Bible reading (realistically, I’m not going anywhere, so I doubt I’ll wake up early 😭)

11:00–12:00 p.m.: Eat and watch a movie

12:00–1:40 p.m.: Post today’s content and create Saturday’s content

1:40–2:40 p.m.: Prep for meeting

2:40–3:00 p.m.: I don’t know yet (we’ll find out together 😂)

3:00–4:00 p.m.: Dress and go for meeting

7:00–9:00 p.m.: Read Musculoskeletal System

9:00 p.m.–12:00 a.m.: Finish Book of the Month

Hopefully tomorrow’s better.

And who knows? I might just write another blog post tomorrow too.

Thanks for reading!
